Cold season.

February 9, 2008

My OH has come down with the dreaded “common ” cold.  From the looks of the drugstore’s cold remedy dept. tonight, everyone in town must have one.  It reminded me of a department store on black Fri. in Nov.  When I finally made my purchases of cough drops & gel caps, guaranteed to work wonders, I felt like I had been drug thru a crowd of protesters.  The worst part of someone else being sick is you never know what to do.  If your are over concerned , you are being smothering,  yet if you try to be light & amusing, your accused of not caring.  The most amazing thing is we  can fly to the moon,  talk coast to coast wireless & clone people, but can’t cure this “common” cold.

The the bottom line is, I’m next & I hate missing cocktail hour @ 5 O’clock somewhere because of a stupid cold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Past friends.

January 27, 2008

Sometimes out of the blue , I will think of someone out of my past that has long been forgotten.  Tonight I find myself thinking of the fastest bartender I have ever known.  His name was Tim,  as I remember, and worked @ a place called the Club Royal in Kansas City, Mo. He was also a neighbor of mine in a not too great apartment complex down by the plaza center.  He could take care of a whole bunch of customers & still find time to talk to people.  A real pro!!!  When I walked in , a Bud would be sitting on the bar waiting for me.  Never figured out how he knew I was coming in, but he did. Or was he guessing?  I can remember sitting there,  watching him & wondering how anyone could wait on thirsty customers &   mix their drinks that fast.

Not exactly “CHEERS” but close enough for me.  Where ever you are Tim,  here’s to you tonight @ 5 o”clock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exercise..

January 25, 2008

Cocktail hour was really welcome tonight after exercising all afternoon.  I’m sure you have noticed that everything today is about “healthful living” & one of the main factors is exercise.  I don’t belong to a health club, the YMCA is too far away & it is too damn cold to walk outside.  My solution is to ask my “OH” (other half) if she is up to some serious walking & after a couple of weird looks, she says why not.  We then get in the car and drive to Wallywood & after driving around the lot 5 times we find a close in spot to park.  Then we proceed to go in & walk every aisle up & down.  This routine is followed @ Target,The Dollar Store & Sears.

  • Now this maynot be true exercise, but at least I’m trying & it does make the cocktails taste better @” 5 O’clock some where”.

I was in  an amazing place for a few days.  It doesn’t awe me as much as it did the 1st time I pulled in there several years ago,  but it is still amazing.  Nothing but R.V.’s as far as you can see.  Big ones, little ones ,old & new.  It is hard to believe there are that many people with R.V.’s in the country.  But then just drive around almost any town & you see R.V.’s in alot of yards.  Or try to find a place to store one for a decent price.  The thing that really gets me is that most of these fine people have no hook ups.  It’s called “boon docking”.  I have done that myself in past years & can tell you that it is a great way to meet all kinds of people.  Mostly good!!!

This year,  I was fortunately with one of my off spring & her family group.  There is nothing like “family” to make most any experience a memorable event, especially as you get older (much older in my case).  We walked all the miles of flea markets looking for things we can’t live without & wondering how all these vendors can exist.  Of course I probably gained several pounds as we did our share of eating along with great cocktail hours (& hours.)

My super cat was glad to see me when I got home anyway.

Enough thoughts for this cocktail hour.

Like I  always  say ”It’s 5 O’clock somewhere”  even in Quartzite, Arizona!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Extended families.

January 6, 2008

Over martini’s tonight, I started thinking about the endless possibilities of what can become extended families in today’s world. At the rate that people are having kids & splitting up, it is easy to imagine people having literally 100s of grand children & god only knows how many great grand children. Then , what about protocol, at what point does one decide to drop a son’s ex’s kids by a previous affair , from the roll of grandchild to former grandchild? And this is only the tip of what could become a real family donnybrook!!!!!!!! I’m sure personalitys & likes & dislikes could bring out a whole new catagory of “disfunctional family problems”!!!! It sort of puts some of the redneck jokes into perspective. Enough deep thinking for today.

Warming trend.

January 5, 2008

I wonder how many people that are freezing in some cold & freezing locations tonight are worrying about “global warming” ? Just a thought I had during tonights cocktail hour.
Personally, it’s been so long since I have been warm, I would welcome alot of warming!!

I cannot help but think about all the good could be done with the millions of $’s that are being
wasted on all this BS campaigning. I will be hard pressed to vote for any of the above. It has become an election of voting against a candidate instead of voting for one. Of course this is only my humble opinion & I am rarely wrong if only in my mind. Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New Year

January 3, 2008

A few musings over cocktails , the 1st in 2008. I recently spent a few days in 2 different hospitals & have come away with a new profound respect for all those good people in the nursing profession. Any one who can put up with my sarcasm & still come across with a smile deserves every penny they make. And I was nice next to some of the sob’s I saw & heard, that they had to put up with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is my 1st winter out of the south of Fl. for sometime & I have been rather vocal about missing it. High in the nation day after day. Well guess what, last night it was colder there than it was here in Vegas. Maybe someone does listen to me.
